Tapastic, a Santa Clara, CA-based online portal for webcomics, closed a $2m Series A funding.
South Korea’s Daum Communications provided the capital and partnered with the company to launch the English version of major Korean webcomics property, “Like A Wolf”, which was created by Korean webtoon artist Sehyung Lee.
Tapastic will use the funds to hire developers, enhance its features and continue to grow its online community of webcomics content creators.
Led by Chang Kim, CEO, Tapastic operates an open platform and community for independent online comic artists and visual storytellers to connect with fans, which can read, collect, track and subscribe to their favorite webcomics. It is currently hosting more than 1,200 creators, more than 1,400 comic series, and more than 24,000 individual comic episodes.
The company aims to introduce Korean content to global audiences and develop and grow a U.S. English-language market for online comics.
