CloudFlare, a San Francisco, California-based provider of Internet performance and security solutions, announced a $50m Series C funding round.
Backers in the round, closed in December 2012, included Union Square Ventures and Greenspring Associates, New Enterprise Associates, Pelion Venture Partners, and Venrock.
The company has used the funds to continue to grow. It has added 23 global data centers to its network capacity and established an engineering office in London. CloudFlare now plans to continue its network expansion in 2014 with new data center locations coming soon in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and China.
Led by Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO, CloudFlare protects and accelerates online websites by routing them through its intelligent global network. It aims to automatically optimize the delivery of web pages, blocks threats and limits abusive bots and crawlers from wasting bandwidth and server resources.
