Scoopshot Raises $3.9M in Funding

ScoopshotScoopshot, a Helsinki, Finland-based startup that provides brands and publishers with the ability to source photography on-demand from its global network of mobile photographers, raised $3.9m in funding.

The round was led by Conor Venture Partners and Finish Industry Investment, with participation from existing investors. In conjunction with the funding, Chris Barchak, Partner at Conor Venture Partners, will join Scoopshot’s board as its new Chairman.

The company intends to use the funds to expand globally, mainly in the US and UK, by expanding its existing sales and marketing teams there.

Led by Petri Rahja, CEO and Founder, Scoopshot gives brands and publishers the ability to source custom photography on-demand, while engaging with a targeted group of consumers. Through an open platform (at Scoopshot.com), photo buyers can create location-based assignments for more than 350,000 mobile photographers around the world.
Photographers can respond to tasks, earning money and recognition through Scoopshot’s apps for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices.
Since launching in July 2013, it has been used by including GANT, Greenpeace, and Nokia with more than 60 publishers. Recent deals include News Corp Australia, the California Newspaper Publishers Association, and Next Media, Hong Kong’s largest publicly listed Chinese-language print media company and owner of Apple Daily, one of Hong Kong’s largest daily newspapers.
