creativeLIVE_Logo (1)creativeLIVE, a San Francisco-based live education platform, closed $21.5m in Series B funding.

The round was led by The Social+Capital Partnership with participation from existing investor Greylock Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Ted Maidenberg, General Partner at The Social+Capital Partnership, is joining James Slavet, Partner at Greylock Partners, on creativeLIVE’s board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to develop its platform and expand its offering.

Founded in April 2010 by Chase Jarvis and entrepreneur Craig Swanson, and led by CEO Mika Salmi, creativeLIVE provides a socially-engaged education platform that connects students everywhere with top experts in a live, dynamic online classroom.
The platform offers freemium access to a library of more than 500 courses taught by experts across channels in photo, video & film, business, software, design, lifestyle and audio, with the company adding courses daily.
Since its launch, it has been used by over 2 million students from 200 countries.

The company, which had raised $8m in a Series A round led by Greylock Partners (read here about the $7.5m first close and here about the second close), is now hiring.
