CenturyLink Acquires Tier 3

CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL), a large telecommunications company, recently acquired Tier 3, a Seattle, WA-based provider of public cloud services, for an undisclosed sum.

Following the transaction, Tier 3’s cloud platform is available as “CenturyLink Cloud” while Jared Wray, the founder and chief technology officer of the company, will now serve as chief technology officer for the CenturyLink Cloud organization and lead the CenturyLink Cloud Development Center.

The new CenturyLink Cloud – based on Tier 3’s public, multi-tenant cloud – targets complex enterprise workloads for businesses of all sizes. Its self-service interface allows administrators to create and manage public cloud environments. A web services API and a Cloud Foundry-based Platform-as-a-Service provide a comprehensive cloud application toolkit for enterprise developers.
