Boulder Ionics Receives $500k Investment

Boulder Ionics Corp., a Boulder, Colo.-based producer of high-performance electrolytes and electrochemical-grade ionic liquids for advanced energy storage devices, received a $500k investment from the Southern Cross Renewable Energy Fund.

The company intends to use the capital, which complements a prior $4.3m Series A round along with grant awards totaling almost $2m from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy, to support a collaborative research program and license arrangement with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency, and to create an Australian subsidiary.

Founded in 2011 by CEO Dr. Jerry Martin, Boulder Ionics is a producer of high-performance electrolytes and electrochemical-grade ionic liquids for energy storage devices. Applications include ultracapacitors, lithium-ion batteries and metal-air batteries.
The company is working with strategic partners and expects full integration of its electrolytes into a number of commercial products by mid-2014.
