ZappRx Raises $1M in Seed Funding

ZappRx, a Cambridge, MA-based provider of a platform for electronic prescriptions, raised $1m in seed funding.

The round was led by Atlas Venture, with participation from Life Sciences Angel Network and Hakan Satiroglu, among others.

Launched in May 2012 by CEO Zoe Barry with friends and family backing from physicist James Glimm, Michael Silverman and Dr. David Silverman, among others, ZappRx provides doctors, patients, and pharmacists interact with a smartphone app for managing prescription payments and medical information.
The platform will allow:
– doctors to e-prescribe directly to their patients,
– patients to order and pay for prescriptions electronically, and
– pharmacists to pre-process insurance information and communicate digitally with the prescriber.
Medication reconciliation, adherence verification, symptom tracking, refill requests, bill pay, and provider messaging will all also be done through the platform.
Over the next months, the company will announce pilots and partnerships with doctors, clinics, and pharmacies across the country.

In addition to the funding, Jay Silverstein, Founding Member of Oxford Health, Will Cowen, Founder and CEO of NaviNet, and George Kassabgi, Founder of Keas.com, were named as advisers.
