Academia.edu Raises $11.1M in Series B Funding

Academia.edu, a San Francisco, CA-based community of scientists, raised $11.1m in Series B funding.

The round was led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from existing investors Spark Capital and True Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Khosla Ventures’ Ben Ling will join Academia’s board of directors. Vinod Khosla will join as an advisor.

Led by Richard Price, Founder and CEO, Academia.edu is a platform for academics to share research papers. It allows academics to share their research, monitor analytics around the impact of their research, and track the research of academics they follow.
According to a written note, to date, 4,308,424 academics have signed up to the site, adding 1,629,811 papers and 861,492 research interests.
