DigitalOcean Closes $3.2M in Funding

DigitalOcean, a New York City-based provider of cloud hosting solutions, closed $3.2m in funding.

The round was led by IA Ventures, with participation from CrunchFund and TechStars. In conjunction with the funding, Brad Gillespie, a Partner at IA Ventures, joined DigitalOcean’s Board.

The company intends to use the funds to grow their engineering and marketing teams (read here), expand server capacity, add new domestic and international locations, and roll out features such as Object Storage, CDN, and 1-click installs of common frameworks.

Led by Ben Uretsky, CEO and co-founder, DigitalOcean provides a cloud hosting experience allowing users to easily create a cloud server. Pricing plans start at $5 per month for 512MB of RAM, 20GB SSD, 1 CPU, and 1TB Transfer. The company has servers located in New York, San Francisco, and Amsterdam.
Launched one year ago, DigitalOcean has more than 35,000 customers who have deployed over 300,000 virtual servers.
