Hortonworks, a Palo Alto, CA-based company that develops, distributes and supports Apache Hadoop, raised $50m in new financing.
Backers included new investors Tenaya Capital and Dragoneer Investment Group and existing investors Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures and Yahoo!.
The company intends to use the funds to scale global field operations and further invest in its engineering organization (read here).
Led by Rob Bearden, CEO, and Eric Baldeschwieler, CTO, Hortonworks develops, distributes and supports open source distribution of Apache Hadoop – the preeminent open source platform for storing, managing and analyzing big data – for enterprise-grade deployments.
The company provides technical support, training and certification programs for enterprises, systems integrators, and technology vendors.
