Coursera Raises $43M in Series B Financing

Coursera, a Mountain View, CA-based provider of courses online, raised $43m in Series B financing.

Backers included new investors Laureate Education Inc., the World Bank’s investment arm, LearnCapital Venture Partners, GSV Capital and Yuri Milner, as well as existing investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and New Enterprise Associates.

The company will use the funds to double its headcount, for technological developments and strategic initiatives including
a suite of mobile apps, opening up to the development of third party applications, international expansion through localization, translation, and distribution partnerships, development of collaborative learning environments, and increase of university partnerships.

Co-founded by Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, Coursera is an education company that partners with universities and organizations worldwide to offer courses online in a wide range of topics, such as the Humanities, Medicine, Biology, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Business, Computer Science, and others. Courses allows learners to watch lectures online, receive interactive assignments, and collaborate with a global community of students.
