Sonendo, a Laguna Hills, Calif.-based provider of technologies for endodontic therapy, raised $18m in venture capital funding.
The company completed the second of two equity financings announced last year, for a total of $27m.
The round was led by OrbiMed Advisors, with participation from Fjord Ventures, NeoMed Management and new investor Themes Investment Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Frank Yu, Co-founder and CEO of Themes Investment Partners, joined Sonendo’s board.
The company intends to use the funds to finalize technology development, fund ongoing clinical studies and commercialize its Multisonic Ultracleaning System™, set to launch in 2014.
Sonendo’s system aims to deliver broad spectrum sonic energy through a disposable dental handpiece to the root canal structures and loosen and remove all the debris, decay, and bacteria from the canal within minutes.
The company is led by Bjarne Bergheim, President and CEO.
