Skift Raises $1.1M in Seed Financing

Skift, a NYC-based business information company for the travel sector and engaged business travelers, raised $1.1m in seed financing.

The round was led by Lerer Ventures, with participation from new funds Advancit Capital, Ironfire Angel, Mesa+, and Growlab/LX Ventures, new angel investors including Martin Nisenholtz, Michael Yavonditte, Shakil Khan, Jason Calacanis, Paul Noglows, Sean Keener, Duncan Jennings, and Michael Cunniff (Skift’s CFO).
They join existing backers Chris Ahearn, Luke Beatty, Gordon Crovitz, Tom Glocer, Jason Hirschhorn and others.
To date, Skift has raised more than $1.5m.

The company intends to use the capital to hire new people (developers, audience development, editorial and sales professionals), and expand its current portfolio of news, insight, data, tools and services.

Founded by CEO Rafat Ali and Head of Content Jason Clampet, Skift specializes in travel intelligence producing a news site (at Skift.com), a proprietary travel-brand index (SkiftSocial), and proprietary data reports (SkiftData).
