Box Acquires Crocodoc

Crocodoc, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a tool to convert Microsoft Office and PDF documents to HTML5, has been acquired by Box.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

The company, which provides a solution to convert Microsoft Office and PDF documents to HTML5, so users can view and collaborate in a web app, will remain committed to developing and offering their platform API as a stand-alone product, integrating the technology into Box’s collaboration service, as well as launching a new version of Crocodoc.
Led by Ryan Damico, co-founder and CEO, Crocodoc has partnered with customers such as Yammer, LinkedIn, Dropbox, Facebook, and Edmodo.

Founded in 2005 and led by CEO Aaron Levie, Altos, CA-based Box provides a platform that allows users to share content internally and externally through iPad, iPhone, Android and Windows Phone apps, as well as via Google Apps, NetSuite and Salesforce. It is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Emergence Capital Partners, General Atlantic, Meritech Capital Partners, NEA, Scale Venture Partners, and U.S. Venture Partners, and strategic investors salesforce.com and SAP.
