Plizy Raises $4M in Series A Funding

Plizy, a San Francisco, CA-based cloud media center that allows users to search, organize, watch and share content available online, has raised $4m in a Series A funding from Atlas Venture.

The company intends to use the funding to expand its audience, aggregate more content from providers such as Cinemax, Snagfilm and Starz, and build out its offerings across multiple platforms, specifically on Android and iOS.

Led by Jonathan Benassaya, founder and CEO, Plizy aggregates more than 550,000 movies, 200,000 shows and 100,000,000 videos, which can be viewed on the iPad, web and TV. It currently has partners like Amazon Prime, Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, Dailymotion, HBO Go, Hulu, Hulu+, iTunes, Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube.

In conjunction with the deal, David Marcus, President of PayPal will join Plizy’s board of directors alongside Fred Destin, partner at Atlas Venture.
The company previously raised $1.2m in angel funding from co-founder of Fotolia Oleg Tschelzhoff.
