Plivo, a Walnut, CA-based provider of a voice and messaging applications platform, has raised $1.75m in seed financing.
The company plans to use the capital to expand the platform beyond voice and messaging into areas such as video and WebRTC, which will enable applications such as voice calls and video chat without plugins, as well as to increase sales and marketing efforts.
Launched in December 2011 by Mike Ricordeau and Venky Balasubramanian, Plivo provides enterprises, service providers and web developers with a platform to build voice and messaging applications that integrate the web with telephony, both fixed and mobile.
The company, which currently has 17 employees, plans to add 4 people by the end of 2012 in Bangalore, India. (https://plivo.recruiterbox.com/).
