ownCloud Inc., a Lexington, Mass.-based developer of open source file sync and share software, has closed a $2.5m seed funding.
The round was led by General Catalyst Partners.
The company intends to use the capital to further expand partneships, expand its enterprise and education customer base and support service providers who implement file sync and share based on ownCloud.
Founded in 2011 and led by CEO Markus Rex, ownCloud deploys its server on a company’s or trusted service provider’s servers, integrating with existing security, storage, monitoring and reporting tools. It has more than 650,000 users worldwide.
In conjunction with the funding, General Catalyst Managing Director Larry Bohn will join the company’s board of directors.
ownCloud has European headquarters in Nuremberg, Germany.
