UrbanSitter Closes $6M Series A Funding

UrbanSitter, a San Francisco, CA-based online service that connects parents and sitters through people they know, has closed a $6m Series A funding.

The round was led by Canaan Partners, with participation from existing investors First Round Capital, Menlo Ventures, Rustic Canyon Partners and other angels.

The company, which raised $1.75m in seed funding (read here), intends to use the capital to accelerate product development, advance its mobile efforts and further expand into new markets.

Launched in San Francisco in Sept. 2011 by Lynn Perkins, the service, which enables parents to search, book and review trusted sitters, has expanded to a dozen cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Seattle and Denver.
The company recently launched an iOS app.

In conjunction with the funding, John Balen of Canaan Partners has joined UrbanSitter’s board of directors.
