Grow the Planet Raises €400K in Equity Funding

Grow the Planet, an Italian digital startup that operates a social network for the food industry, has raised €400k in equity funding.

The investment was made by Veneto Sviluppo, which now holds 25% of the total shares of the company along with H-Farm Ventures.

The company intends to use the funding to expand operations and its communities, which currently has 30,000 users.

Founded in April 2011 by Leonardo Piras and Gianni Gaggiani, Grow the Planet is a new service that aims to develop a sustainable approach to the food industry through a social network of small producers, professionals or not, who share their home grown products with their friends and community. It features management, learing, collaboration, and exchange tools.

The company, which is seeded in H-Farm, recently signed agreements with Slow Food, WWF and Società Toscana di Cultura.

It launched at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco in September 2012.
