Gigwalk, a San Francisco, Calif.-based mobile work marketplace connecting businesses with smartphone enabled field works around the country, has raised $6m in Series A venture funding.

August Capital joined existing investors Greylock, Harrison Metal, SoftTech VC, Founder Collective, and AdMob founder Omar Hamoui in the round (read here).

The company intends to use the capital to extend and enhance its marketplace and mobile technology.

Launched in May 2011 and led by CEO Bob Bahramipour and CTO and Head of Product Matt Crampton, Gigwalk operates a mobile work marketplace that gives businesses access to smartphone-enabled workers across the country.
Businesses post Gigs, such as mystery shopping, store audits, field photography, etc. through Gigwalk.com, which are instantly delivered to user’s phones through the Gigwalk app (available for free in the iTunes store), where they can earn money by completing the Gigs.
