fanatix, a U.K.-based social network dedicated entirely to sports, has launched its app in the U.S. after securing an additional $1m in funding.
Backers include unnamed angel investors.
Launched in October 2011 by CEO Will Muirhead, fanatix provides sports fans with a personalized stream of sports content including news updates, tweets, video clips, live scores and statistics and enables easy sharing of that content in group chat for sports fans.
The service has already been selected by Manchester City, ESPN, Eurosport and a range of other sports media organizations to help them engage second screen sports audiences, especially during live broadcasts.
The company’s free iOS app has surpassed the 250,000 mark in downloads with a daily active user base of more than 35,000.
