Double Robotics Raises $250K

Double Robotics, a Mountain View, California-based company that builds telepresence robots, has raised $250k from Grishin Robotics.

Double Robotics completed the Y Combinator program in Summer 2012.

The company intends to use the funding to scale manufacturing, as well as further product development. To this end, it is hiring new people (http://www.doublerobotics.com/jobs.html)

Founded in 2011 by David Cann and Marc DeVidts, Double Robotics plans to release its iPad-based telepresence robot before the end of 2012.
According to a statement, publicly launched in August, the company already has $1.2 million (600 units) in pre-orders from 44 countries around the world.
Customers include 24 universities, as well as 17 Fortune 500 companies, which are using the product for teleconferencing, security surveillance, real estate and museum tours, healthcare, presentation purposes, etc.
New pre-orders will be delivered in early 2013.

Double Robotics manufactures many of its robot components from its own CNC-equipped shop in Miami, Florida.
