Educreations Closes $2.2M Series A Funding

Educreations, a Palo Alto, CA-based developer of a mobile learning platform, has closed a $2.2m Series A funding.

Backers include Accel Partners, NewSchools Venture Fund, Matthew Greenfield, Tabreez Verjee, David Popowitz and Julia Popowitz.

The company intends to use the capital to to expand its platform.

Founded by CEO Wade Roberts and Chris Streeter and incubated in ImagineK12, a Silicon Valley-based accelerator program for education technology startups, Educreations has created the Educreations Interactive Whiteboard app, which transforms the iPad into a recordable, interactive whiteboard that captures voice and handwriting to produce video lessons. It hosts these lessons online, where they can be shared publicly or with a private group. Students and teachers can replay the lessons in any web browser, or from within the iPad app.

In conjunction with the funding, Accel’s Rich Wong will join the company’s board.
