EdSurge Raises $400K in Seed Funding

EdSurge, a news source on education technology, has raised $400k in seed funding.

Backers include Washington Post Co., NewSchools Venture Fund, and angel investors Allen & Co. executives Nancy Peretsman and Gillian Munson, O’Reilly Media executive Dale Dougherty and entrepreneur Judy Estrin.

The company, which has also received grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for supporting its website, intends to use the funding to expand its coverage and to further develop independent reviews of educational technology products.

Launched in February 2011 by journalists, technologists and educators and led by CEO Elizabeth Corcoran and and President Nick Punt, EdSurge provides independent reviews of education technology products as well as commentaries on best practices for using technology, to educators, entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers through its website, newsletters and events.
