BioData Closes Series B Funding with Digital Science


BioData Ltd., a Boston and Tel Aviv-based developer a research and lab management system, has closed a Series B round of funding with Digital Science, a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd.

The amount of the round was not disclosed.

Led by Jonathan Gross, Founder and Co-CEO, BioData provides web-based software for increasing the productivity of academic and industrial laboratories. It is currently used by thousands of researchers in hundreds of labs worldwide. The company recently launched its research and lab management system, Labguru, integrating into it protocols from Sigma Life Science and Nature Protocols, released a new website and an iPad app, and purchased the assets of LabLife.

BioData, which has a growing user base of over 40,000 researchers, also signed a site license agreement with the Technion’s Rappaport Institute. In the coming year it plans to offer additional features for accessing third-party protocols, products and materials databases so that Labguru users may improve how they plan experiments and manage inventory and orders.
