General Mobile Corporation, a Cayman-based company that provides mobile internet service to emerging markets via its content management and application store hosting platform, has raised $5m in funding.
Backers include SingTel Innov8, the wholly-owned corporate venture arm of the SingTel Group, and Mitsui & Co., which join existing investors MediaTek Inc.
The company intends to use the funding to expand in the mobile internet business in the emerging markets.
Founded in 2011 and led by CEO Mr. Paul Wu, General Mobile offers G-Mobi, a mobile phone platform and mobile Internet service platform that provides clients with tools to develop and operate mobile application store, develop and support mobile applications, develop and host statistic servers and billing platform.
The company has offices in Taipei, Shanghai and Shenzhen and its business coverage includes South-East Asia, Africa, India, East Europe and Latin America etc.
