Posterous Acquired by Twitter

San Francisco, CA-based blog publishing platform Posterous has been acquired by Twitter for an undisclosed sum.

The company’s engineers, product managers and others will join Twitter working on several key initiatives.

An Y Combinator startup that was originally launched as a blog publishing platform via email, the service currently provides bloggers with tools to create static pages, a web editor and iPhone and Android apps. All sites in Posterous can be customized, made public or private, and be associated with a custom domain. It embeds posted videos, MP3s and other media into a player and turns images into image galleries.

According to founder and CEO Sachin Agarwal, Posterous Spaces will remain up and running and the company will give users notice of changes to the service.
