Machine Zone, Inc. (formerly known as Addmired), a Palo Alto, Calif.-based mobile social games startup, has raised $8m in Series B funding from Menlo Ventures.
The round follows a $5.3m Series A funding from Anthos Capital and Baseline Ventures.
The company intends to use the capital to accelerate the growth of its products and platform, expand facilities, and ramp up recruitment efforts. It plans to add developers, designers, and engineers.
Launched in 2008 with Y Combinator funds and led by CEO Gabriel Leydon, Machine Zone has published free-to-play mobile games with titles such as iMob 2, Original Gangstaz, and Global War, among others.
In conjunction with the funding, Shervin Pishevar, Menlo Ventures’ managing director and founder of Social Gaming Network (SGN), has joined Machine Zone’s board of directors along with Bryan Kelly, managing partner, Anthos Capital.
