LensAR Closes $24M Financing

LensAR, Inc., an Orlando, Florida-based developer of laser systems for cataract surgery, has closed a $24m financing.

Backers included Aisling Capital and Florida Growth Fund (FGF).

The company intends to use the capital for the first commercial shipments of the LensAR™ Laser System in the United States, Europe and other markets worldwide, as well as for ongoing research and development activities for the product in additional clinical applications.

Led by newly appointed CEO Nick Curtis, LensAR develops and commercializes an innovative laser and advanced 3D imaging technology for refractive cataract surgery. Previous releases of the solution have already been cleared by FDA for anterior capsulotomy and lens fragmentation. The company, which has its first system installed at the Asian Eye Institute in the Philippines, is also completing preparations for the installation of its second system at the Instituto de Ojos Sacro Cuore in Lima, Peru.
Curtis replaced previous CEO Randy Frey, who will remain a member of the company’s board.
