WireTough Cylinders Receives $200K Investment from Commonwealth Energy Fund

WireTough Cylinders, LLC, a Bristol, Va.-based manufacturer of compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders reinforced with steel wire, has received a $200k investment from the Center for Innovative Technology‘s Commonwealth Energy Fund (CEF).

The company intends to use the funding to expand their product outreach.

Led by CEO Amit Prakash, WireTough provides on-board CNG cylinders designed to reduce weight, provide high safety, and increase fuel-efficiency for vehicles. They are constructed with lightweight steel liners wrapped with a proprietary high strength steel wire, sealed with a special epoxy, and covered with a thin protective mesh.

The WireTough team jointly holds over 30 U.S. patents and several new designs in aerospace, steel, and tire areas.
