Thumbtack Raises $4.5M in Series A Funding

Thumbtack, a San Francisco CA-based community marketplace to list, discover and book local services, has raised a $4.5m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Javelin Venture Partners, with participation from MHS Capital and Tim Draper.

The company intends to use the funding to hire designers and developers to add to its current team of eight (http://www.thumbtack.com/jobs).
Co-founded in 2009 by CEO Marco Zappacosta, Director of Operations Jonathan Swanson and Director of User Happiness Sander Daniels, Thumbtack is a trusted marketplace where consumers can find, compare, and book local services and connect to providers including tutors,painters, cleaners, translators and rap teachers, cartoonists, belly dancers, henna body artists.
Merchants on Thumbtack are approximately 240,000.

In conjunction with the funding, Javelin’s Managing Director, Jed Katz, has joined the company’s Board.
