Skorpios Technologies Raises Additional $2M in Series B Funding

Skorpios Technologies, an Albuquerque, N.M.-based optical communications company, has raised $2m from T-Venture in a follow-on funding to its Series B funding round.

This additional investment brings the total amount raised in Series B round to $21m. Other investors include Cottonwood Technology Fund and Sun Mountain Capital, as well as Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and other undisclosed investors (read here).

The company intends to use the capital to expand its infrastructure and complete the commercialization of its core technology.

Founded in July 2009, Skorpios designs, develops and manufactures integrated optical modules and subsystems in support of the entire opto-electronic communications ecosystem. Its advanced composite semiconductor on insulator technology allows the generation, detection and modulation of light to be monolithically integrated with high-speed electronic circuits in a standard CMOS-compatible process known as Composite-Semiconductor on Insulator (C-SOI) and is fully supported within existing standard CMOS foundry processes.

The company is continuing to hire (http://www.skorpiosinc.com/Site/Careers.html)
