ViKi Closes $20M Series B Financing

ViKi, an international video site and a community of translators, has closed a $20m Series B financing.

Backers include strategic investors SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, and BBC Worldwide, as well as existing investors Greylock Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Charles River Ventures and Neoteny Labs, among others.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand the service onto multiple platforms, develop new products, hire key professionals (http://www.viki.com/jobs) and secure additional content partnerships around the world.

In conjunction with the funding, Greg Park, EVP of SK Planet, will be joining ViKi’s board.

Publicly launched in Dec 2010 and led by CEO and co-founder Razmig Hovaghimian, ViKi is an international video site with TV series, movies and other premium content, translated into over 150 languages by its community of fans (translators).

BBC Worldwide has licensed more than 30 prime-time TV series to ViKi with titles including Gavin & Stacey, Mistresses, Coupling, Hotel Babylon, Fawlty Towers and Oliver Twist..
The company also signed licensing agreements with NBC Universal, as well as the A+E Networks International, operator and distributor of A&E Network, HISTORY and BIO, for various regions around the world. The new content will be available on the site in the coming months.
Other recent global media partners with content already public on ViKi include TVB in Hong Kong, SBS in South Korea, Fuji TV in Japan and Amedia in Russia.
