Chromatin Completes $10M First Closing of Series D Financing

Chromatin, Inc., a Chicago, IL-based supplier of renewable biomass feedstocks for energy producers, completed a $10m first closing of its Series D financing.

Backers include BP Ventures and Unilever Technology Ventures and existing investors Quantitative Investment Holdings, the Malaysian Life Sciences Capital Fund, and Illinois Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to advance supply chains of energy crop feedstocks for power, fuel and chemical producers of renewable energy.

Led by CEO Daphne Preuss, Chromatin is also developing high-value sorghum seeds, using its proprietary crop-breeding technology and biotechnology programs.
The company licenses its gene-stacking technologies to support the crop-breeding programs of agriculture companies, and it applies its technology platforms to its subsidiary, Sorghum Partners LLC, which markets and supplies hybrid sorghum seeds to growers in the US and more than 20 other countries.
