F Surgical Systems Closes $12M Funding Round

F Surgical Systems, Inc., a Bellevue, Washington-based provider of solution for the prevention and detection of retained surgical items (RSI), closed a $12m funding.

The round was led by new investor Split Rock Partners, with participation from existing investors Menlo Ventures, Stanford University and two of the company founders.

Since the release of the RF Assure Detection System in November 2010, the company has added more than 70 new hospitals and surgical centers to its extensive customer base. Because of the rapid acceptance of the technology in the market place,

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate product innovation, expand its sales and field support team, and intensify key R&D programs such as the development of a solution to tag surgical instruments and other patient safety-related products.

Led by co-founder and chairman Dr. Jeffrey Port, RF Surgical derves more than 70 hospitals and surgical centers. It has R & D facilities in San Diego, California.
