MyHeritage.com Buys BackupMyTree

MyHeritage.com, a family social network, acquired BackupMyTree LLC, a free and automatic backup service for family tree data.

BackupMyTree’s software automatically finds family tree files and create a remote, off-site backup, ensuring complete protection of data, preventing loss of years of work due to a computer disaster such as a virus or hard disk crash.
Launched one year ago and led by founder and CEO Cliff Shaw, Boulder, Colorado-based BackupMyTree currently protects more than 9 TB of family tree data.
Following the acquisition, the service will be mainteined free.

Led by founder and CEO Gilad Japhet, MyHeritage.com is based in Bnei Atarot, near Tel Aviv, Israel and is available in 38 languages. It includes more than 800 million profiles and 20 million family trees.
The company is backed by Accel Partners and Index Ventures.
