10gen Secures $20M in Financing

10gen, a New York, NY- and Redwood Shores, CA-based developer of open source non-relational database MongoDB, and provider of production support, training, and consulting services for the database, has secured $20m in financing.

The round was led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from existing investors Flybridge Capital and Union Square Ventures.
This new funding brings the total amount raised by the company to date to more than $31m.

10gen intends to use the funds to expand customer service and research and development in Europe and Asia, and open new offices in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

The company also appointed technology veteran Erik Frieberg to the role of vice president of marketing and alliances. He brings more than 20 years of industry experience in marketing, product management and corporate strategy from large companies including HP Software, Borland, BEA as well as startups such as KIVA, Persistence and Netscape.

Founded in 2007 by CEO Dwight Merriman and Eliot Horowitz, 10gen has more than 400 customers including Disney, Ericsson, Viacom, Telefonica and SAP, and is currently hiring (https://www.10gen.com/jobs).
