Rocket Lawyer Raises $18.5M in Capital

Rocket Lawyer, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of an online legal service, has raised $18.5m in expansion capital.

The round was led by August Capital, with participation from Google Ventures and Investor Growth Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to build its brand and patent-pending online legal solutions.

Founded in August of 2008 by executive chairman Charley Moore, Rocket Lawyer enables users to create customized legal documents that can be downloaded and shared instantly. It provides legal plan members with access to free document reviews from local attorneys and discounted rates on legal services for more complicated legal needs. Lawyers can access online marketing tools and targeted client referrals.

In conjunction with the funding, David Hornik, general partner of August Capital, will join the company’s board of directors.

In addition, Rocket Lawyer has also added Alisa Weiner as Vice President of Marketing. Alisa, who previously served as a VP and executive at Zvents, Shopping.com (an eBay company), and Hotwire, brings 20 years of experience in brand strategy, customer acquisition/retention and product marketing for start ups and established global brands.
