MakerBot Industries Raises $10M in Funding

MakerBot Industries, a New York-based company that has developed a low cost commercial 3D printer, has raised $10m in funding.

The round was led by Foundry Group, with participation from Tony Conrad, Bezos Expeditions, True Ventures, RRE and other existing angels.

Founded in January 2009 by Bre Pettis, Adam Mayer, and Zach Smith, MakerBot Industries produces an open source 3D printer, The Thing-O-Matic!

The company has also created an online community at Thingiverse.com where users can post digital design files, document their designs, and collaborate on open source hardware.

In conjunction with the funding, Brad Feld, managing director at Foundry Group, will join MakerBot Industries’ board.
