ThisWeekIn Receives Venture Capital Investment from Jarl Mohn

ThisWeekIn, Inc., a Santa Monica, CA-based Live Web TV network, has received a venture capital investment from media pioneer Jarl Mohn, who joined the company’s board of directors.
Founder of E! Entertainment and E! Online through a joint venture with CNET, Mr. Mohn currently makes venture capital and buyout investments, serving as a corporate director and advisor to several media companies. He was the founding president and CEO of Liberty Digital, Inc., a company that invested in mid-stage interactive television, cable networks and Internet enterprises.
Launched in May 2010 by Jason Calacanis, Kevin Pollak and Mark Jeffrey, ThisWeekIn offers a network of live-streamed Web TV shows covering a wide variety of topics including technology, business and entertainment, featuring guest experts, founders, movie stars, comedians, technologists and CEOs.
The network distributes its shows across a branded YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/TWiYTube), iTunes and iPad storefronts, Boxee application, and GoogleTV. In partnership with UStream, the ThisWeekIn website features an embedded live chat and video stream, which allow viewers to engage around shows in real-time.
Commenting on the investment, Mohn said: “Highly targeted original Web programming that’s timely, relevant, and hosted by experts with strong viewpoints makes a terrific business model.
“We are entering a new era of Social TV and I am very excited to support what ThisWeekIn is building”.
