Caterna Raises €650K

Caterna GmbH, a Dresden, Germany-based company that develops and markets Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) telemetric treatment software for therapeutic applications in ophthalmology, is to receive a €650k from Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS) and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF).
The company, a spin-off from Dresden Technical University, intends to use the capital to fund market entry and further research and development initiatives for more applications.
For the first area of application, amblyopia or lazy eye, Caterna will be able to provide selected ophthalmologists with treatment software at the beginning of 2011.
Led by Sascha Seewald, Caterna’s CEO, the company has been developing a solution that makes it possible for young patients to be treated from home. The technology will be made available to practices, clinics and patients via a telemedical treatment platform on the internet.
