Tudou, a Shangai, China-based online video platform where users can upload, view and share video clips, has closed a US$50m Series E funding round.
The investment was led by Singapore- based Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd., which committed US$35m, with participation from existing investors, which committed US$15m.
This latest round brings the total amount of capital raised by the company to date to US$135m.
Tudou, which went live in April 2005, today hosts 38 million videos, including amateur video-blogging and user-generated videos, professional content such as movie clips, TV series and music videos from content partners, as well as made-for-Internet original programming produced by Tudou.
Commenting on the funding, Gary Wang, Tudou Founder and CEO, said that the company is investing aggressively into expanding its main advertising supported web platform, and developing mobile/portable device video technology as key future growth drivers.
