Article One Partners, a New York-based patent research community, completed a $5m round of institutional funding.
The round was led by Alleghany Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Alleghany Corporation (N YSE: Y), with participation from other investors.
The funding will be used to enhance existing products and services, developing new ones and accelerating sales.
Through an online human search engine community including 3 million people networked across the world, Article One uncovers previously undisclosed patent quality evidence. Its clients, who sponsor research to resolve patent litigation, strengthen pending patents and support crucial patent quality issues, span many industries, including the telecommunications, automotive, biomedical, pharmaceutical, and consumer electronics sectors, and international law firms.
This latest round follows a $3m Series A investment in 2009 by private investors and General Catalyst Partners.
