Japan, Tonchidot Closes $4M in Series A Funding

Tonchidot Corporation, a Tokyo, Japan-based provider of an innovative web application for mobile devices, announced that it has closed a $4m Series A financing round.
New investor DCM led the round with participation from existing investor ITOCHU Technology Ventures (ITV).
Tonchidot has already launched their service, called Sekai Camera, in Japan and is planning to offer the service to a broader global audience. It is an innovative web application, which enables camera-attached mobile devices, through an augmented reality (AR) interface, to access user-generated text, photos, voice, and other location-based information.
The funding will help accelerate the company’s global expansion.
In connection with the funding, Osuke Honda from DCM will join Tsuyoshi Ogawa from ITV on Tonchidot’s board of directors.
