Florida, Port Manatee Receives $1 Million Security Grant

Port Manatee received a $998,542 grant through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
Port Manatee, which is located at the entrance to Tampa Bay and ranks among Florida’s largest and fastest growing deepwater seaports, will use the funds to purchase energy-efficient hybrid security vehicles and enhance port security surveillance technology.
The upgrades are a part of Port Manatee’s continuing efforts to improve security since the port launched a comprehensive security enhancement program following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Commenting on the grant,  David McDonald, executive directory of Port Manatee, said: “This grant improves the port’s ability to secure the assets and personnel of Port Manatee and its customers. It reaffirms our commitment to be a leader in seaport security”.
